So who are we and why?
Ideas, Ideas and more Ideas. As you all know, Internet is a wonderful tool, that one can use to realize the meaning and spirit of a "True Global Village". JNTU.net is a small attempt in that direction!
JNTU.net is a not-for-profit service by an alumni of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, AP, India (JNTU) wanting to give back something to the alma mater and friends. It is a pure labor of love!
Secondly, to provide Internet tools, infrastructure and services to JANTU at one location by using and showcasing the stuff coming out of fellow JANTU and Open Source community. Hats off to GNU/GPL and the likes. Which freak said "that best things in life should cost an arm and a leg" :-)
As always, we are looking for active JNTU volunteers across the globe to contribute to this project. Do get in touch if you are interested.
Why should I join JNTU.net?
That is a good question, especially in this day and age of monstrous portals. Well, (1) not-for-profit. (2) JNTU roots and connections. (3) maintained by fellow JANTU. (4) All the services on this site are FREE. (5) yourname@jntu.net WebMail. (6) Yahoo style searchable JANTU crowd. (7) webpage hosting. (8) Class mailing lists maintained by JANTU folks. (9) Alumni and Current student services like networking and career pointers. (10) Message boards, Bulletin boards and chat rooms.
(11) May be virtual class rooms? ;-). (12) Help to speed up the Internet age for JNTU back in AP, India. (13) www.jntu.net and www.jntuce.com webspace. (14) Just to get in touch with a ll those long lost friends. (15) And any other cool services and features you intelligent JANTU can think of!
Is this an "official" JNTU site?
That is a good question. The answer is NO. JNTU.net augments the official JNTU site with features not currently provided. For example to start with @jntu.net webmail, online storage etc etc.
When did JNTU.net came online and why no publicity?
Back in early 1999. Yup! it's been long. This site is moderated and hosted out of USA and publicity so far has been by word of mouth or search engines. Don't forget, this is A NON-PROFIT site and we do not have marketing funds. But if you wish to spread the word around back in India, get in touch with us and we will be glad to work with you. Why is JNTU.net account activation moderated?
Benevolent Dictatorship:-), Since this site provides free webmail, online storage etc, we want to make sure only folks withe connections to JNTU use those services. Not to mention, weed off spammers and curious joes.
